The Hospital Club – Dali live music event

Last night I took the Q to London for a live music performance at the hospital club. The Leica Q really excels in every way that matters to me – able to autofocus quickly in low light, produces excellent quality images, it’s small, unobtrusive and lightweight – oh and just darn right enjoyable to use!

Hi, a great set of images. I wonder if I could quiz you? A lot of reviews are talking about a problem with banding in the shadows with the Q. Have you noticed any problem with this? I would have thought it would be apparent with the type of shooting you’ve done in this article. Or is it just pixel-peepers moaning!! Also, how high ISO do you feel comfortable using with the Q? I’m a wedding photojournalist by profession and am seriously considering the Q to accompany my other gear as I love the focal length, and the size & quietness would be a huge plus, but it’s low-light capabilities are very important to me. Thanks!

I guess the shadow banding can occur with any image, but I’ve only noticed it once. To which I probably thought ‘oh’ and put the shadows down a little. I usually leave ISO on auto, and as I shoot mostly f1.7 and it’s not caused me any concern. This photo here is ISO 6400 https://www.flickr.com/photos/62198876@N02/21488642179/in/dateposted-public/ no noise reduction, I’m happy with the results. I think the buffer can hold about 13 images and takes a good 15-20 seconds or so to clear (from memory!), I rattled a few too many off in succession at a wedding and then I was left hoping that nothing interesting happened for a short while.
